Chitra Ravi is an educational visionary who has spent the last two decades crusading against mediocre practices in the educational ecosystem. In 2001, she founded Chrysalis, a state-of-the-art educational research and innovation organization with a vision to let every child discover their inner-potential. She has led the organization to bring radical changes in the school education system such as eliminating the need for ‘textbooks’ in classrooms and bringing a ‘professional’ outlook to teacher development. Under her leadership, Chrysalis has been conferred prestigious awards including the ET-NOW ‘Game-Changer’ award from over 63000 companies which were nominated. In her talks addressing school leaders in India and abroad, she has emphasized on the importance of bringing a culture of thinking in classrooms as well creating emotionally-safe learning environments for children. Having represented India in significant educational conventions across countries, she now spearheads the Authentic Assessment research, proclaimed as India’s most in-depth research in assessment.
Chitra Ravi holds a Masters in English and a Masters in Business Administration. Later in 2005, she underwent a training programme on ‘Views of understanding’ conducted by the Harvard Graduate School of Education.
The whole idea of founding an educational innovation organization came from a personal story of Chitra that converted into entrepreneurship. She saw her kids spending almost 80% of their time in schools, with little experience in nurturing their unique potential. “Kids dropout of school mentally, due to boring methodologies & inauthentic assessments. Such dropout rates are not measured!” is the problem statement she wishes to work on through Chrysalis and its endeavours. Every child’s unique and different Human Potential can be fostered through classrooms is her firm belief. Chrysalis which started off with a five-member team has grown into an organization of 130 team members and caters to nearly 800 schools across India. The Chennai-based organization’s corporate partners are Wipro, IBM, American India Foundation, Dell and Nokia among others.
